About Ocean Youth Trust NE Ocean Youth Trust NE is a sail training charity which specialises in personal development through the medium of ocean sailing. We are the only sail training charity based in the North East and we work with young people between the ages of 12 and 25 from all backgrounds.
Sail training is not just about learning to sail. Rather it is the use of the sailing experience as a tool to develop character, build self-esteem and awareness of the needs of others. We allow people enough space to learn at their own pace and encourage them to work as a team setting the sails, steering and participating in life on board; finding out about the weather, tides and charts by navigating the boat.
Ocean Youth Trust NE mainly runs this activity for organised groups such as schools and colleges, youth clubs, Local Authorities and groups working with the disabled or disadvantaged. Individuals, many of whom are sponsored, sail with us as well.

It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and the acceptance of personal responsibility, promotes an acceptance of others whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. Aims and Objectives Ocean Youth Trust NE uses the ‘Challenge of the Sea’ to help young people to develop and to gain knowledge about themselves and others.

Ocean Youth Trust NE is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved Sea School, a member of the Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO) and an associate of RYA Sailability, the national body for disabled sailing.
